Music at the whisky fair
Three days with music and several artists, congenial to the whisky theme.
Mairi McGillivray is a Gaelic singer and Fiddler from the island of Islay off the west coast of Scotland where she also works as a Tour guide in Bunnahabhain Distillery. Mairi comes from a strong gaelic background and uses her heritage along with her dynamic range of musical influences to put her own style on songs and tunes from her tradition. During recent years she has performed at various events and festivals across the UK and Europe including Celtic Connections, Blas Festival and Dover House(Westminster). Mairi now studies Traditional Music on the BMus(hons) course at Royal Conservatoire Scotland and has recently started her latest endeavour with her new band Maraoth.
Shane mackinnon, born in 1990, stayed on Islay all his life. He works for Diageo as a mechanical engineer at there three sites on Islay - port ellen maltings and lagavulin & caol Ila distilleries. Shane plays along with his Papa Donnie MacKinnon and other local musicians in the local hotels and at other functions such as weddings and ceilidhs. Any spare time he has is spent playing his instruments. Shane started playing the mouth organ at the age of 4 and has picked up a few more instruments over the years including guitar, tenor banjo and most recently the 2-row button box. Shane is self taught and plays only by ear.
